Through Auktor's interpreting service, we offer interpreters in a wide range of languages. If you have a language need that we do not cover, we will let you know immediately when you make your request. In addition to speaking your language, the interpreter must also be sufficiently qualified to interpret in the specific situation.

Calculating the interpreting price

When you need an interpreter, several factors affect the price. The price depends on whether you need the interpreter online, in person, or by phone. If you contact us, you will be given a price - an interpreter typically costs 100-200 euros per hour, excluding VAT.

What kind of interpreting do you need?

Before contacting us, it is worth considering whether you need an interpreter physically present in the same room, whether you can use an interpreter by phone, or whether you have video equipment available. The price may depend on which solution you need, and if you need help with a less common language, video or phone interpreting may be the only option if the nearest interpreter is far away. Most of the interpreting assignments Auktor helps with are in-person interpreting.

When you need an interpreter physically on site

If you need an interpreter physically present in the same room, you need in-person interpreting. For in-person interpreting, you need to be aware of the geographical/physical setting of the assignment. In-person interpreting is often used for more commercial meetings or for meetings with authorities that are legal in nature, or for meetings with a doctor.

Should the interpreting take place online? Then video interpreting is possible

Video interpreting lets you easily connect with an interpreter. During the interpreting, you can use whichever platform you prefer for the meeting, and the interpreter will join it. Please note that in video interpreting, the interpreter needs to be given time to interpret after each participant has said a few sentences. Many of our customers choose video interpreting if logistical conditions would otherwise mean too much travel time for the interpreter. Video interpreting is often used for less common languages, such as Asian or African languages.

Book a phone interpreter

A phone interpreter can be booked at short notice, which makes it a very popular solution. Phone interpreting is also often a better solution if the interpreting session is very short, i.e. under half an hour.

What is the difference between consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting and whispered interpreting?

Consecutive interpreting is a summary, and not always a word-for-word interpretation, of what a meeting participant has just said, typically after a few sentences. Simultaneous interpreting is continuous, ongoing interpreting into the listener's language of what is being said. In whispered interpreting, the interpreter whispers the translation to the listener.

Consecutive interpreting (most commonly used)

Consecutive interpreting is the most commonly used method of interpreting. In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter listens to what is said and conveys it to the listener, who repeats it as accurately as possible. This form of interpreting requires that the interpreter be given space (time) to repeat what has been said.

Simultaneous interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting is typically used in conference interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting is carried out at the same time as the meeting participant is speaking. Simultaneous interpreting often requires interpreting equipment and interpreting systems. Simultaneous interpreters have a specialised background, as simultaneous interpreting requires a great deal of concentration. The interpreter interprets into their own native language, for a maximum of 15 minutes at a time. If the interpreting session lasts more than 30 minutes, the interpreters must take turns. If the interpreting lasts a full day, several interpreters take part. In most cases, headsets with a microphone are needed for the interpreter, as well as headphones for the listeners - and possibly an interpreting booth / enclosed room.

Whispered interpreting

In whispered interpreting, the interpreter whispers the interpretation into the ear of the participant who needs it. Whispered interpreting is often the recommended solution for events where only one person needs interpreting.

Charge for preparation

In most cases, no preparation is needed before interpreting. Preparation may involve the interpreter having to arrive 15 minutes early to familiarise themselves with the room. This is charged for (and you will be informed of this in advance). The interpreter must prepare for interpreting on complex topics requiring specialist knowledge. Typically, the price of preparation is half the price of the interpreting itself.

Important information about travel

When you book an interpreter for in-person interpreting, the interpreter will need some time for travel. Travel time is calculated at a maximum of half an hour, and the price is half the hourly interpreting rate.

Important to know about cancelling an interpreter

We offer you flexibility. Once you have booked an interpreter, you can cancel your booking no later than 5 working days before the agreed date. If the interpreting is cancelled less than 5 working days before the agreed date, we will charge the full original amount.

Interpreting in the evenings and on weekends

If the interpreting starts before 8:00 a.m., a higher rate is charged up until 8:00 a.m. If the interpreting continues after 5:00 p.m., a higher rate is charged for the time after 5:00 p.m.

A higher rate is also charged for interpreting on weekends (from 5:00 p.m. on Friday to 8:00 a.m. on Monday).

Urgent interpreting needs

If an interpreter is needed urgently, i.e. with less than three days' notice, this is considered an urgent assignment. We will put aside whatever else we are working on in order to carry out the interpreting. This typically incurs a 50% surcharge, which will be communicated in advance.
